Cette création et performance collective utilise le mouvement et la force d’expression du corps des trois danseurs, Liam Clancy, Mary Reich et Yolande Snaith, pour transcrire et éprouver l’insondable sentiment du vide – souvent tempéré par la pulsion de vie qui habite tout être – que l’on retrouve dans l’oeuvre du grand Sam. Une oeuvre où les mots, rares, vifs, denses et assemblés en fragments lapidaires, prennent une force immense, signifiant le sens et non-sens de l’existence. Ici, au-delà des mots, le corps exprime un désarroi fondamental, semblant souffrir “de ne plus se souvenir de la façon dont il fallait vivre”. Le metteur en scène Gabor Tompa explique : “Depuis que l’homme a été banni du paradis, le “sans” est devenu l’état naturel de nos vies. Le temps épuise (…) mais il y a toujours quelque chose qui ne peut être enlevé de nous…”. “Et il n’y a pas un seul moment d’ennui – il faut recommencer encore et encore”. La scène est parsemée d’accessoires des pièces de Beckett : chapeau melon, paire de godillots, manteaux, chaise roulante… Shahrokh Yadegari signe une partition musicale sensible et adéquate. Certains critiques, dont l’Américain Robert Cohen, ont qualifié la pièce, en co-production avec le Sushi Center for the Urban Arts San Diego et le Théâtre Hongrois de Cluj, “d’événement mémorable”.
