Créé au théâtre national de Chaillot, Le Projet Rodin de Russell Maliphant s’inspire de l’œuvre puissamment évocatrice du célèbre artiste, que le chorégraphe admire depuis longtemps pour l’expressivité éclatante des corps qu’il représente. « Le but est de capter une partie de l'énergie et de l'émotion formelle omniprésente dans l'œuvre de Rodin, et d'explorer quels états intérieurs peuvent surgir de ces formes nouvelles.” Les tensions, torsions et rotations qui caractérisent les oeuvres de Rodin constituent le point de départ de la pièce, structurée en deux parties, les dessins et les sculptures. Dans une belle scénographie, la danse du chorégraphe britannique, sculptée par un mouvement audacieux et rigoureux et par une superbe lumière, crée souvent une tension dramatique et une émotion fortes, et tente de saisir l’énergie des formes. La force du mouvement du sculpteur capturée par la danse : un très beau programme…
