TEXAS / DUC DES LOMBARDS
Son nom qui traîne régulièrement dans les palmarès les plus en vue aux Etats-Unis est bien connu des amateurs mais, pour l’essentiel, le grand art de cette chanteuse américaine née en 1964 au Texas dans une petite ville posée quelque part sur le trajet de la Highway 79 reste à découvrir du public français. Le Duc des Lombards lui offre très opportunément deux soirées et quatre concerts qui devraient garantir aux amateurs (spécialistes ou non) de Blues un moment musical de très haut niveau. Chanteuse charismatique, drôle et chaleureuse, dotée d’une voix puissante et sensible au timbre magnifique qui la compare aux plus grandes (Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, etc…), Ruthie Foster a grandi dans une famille de chanteurs de gospel. Après quelques premiers albums réussis mais restés confidentiels, son album The Truth According to Ruthie Foster est nominé en décembre 2009 pour le Grammy du meilleur album de blues contemporain, avant la consécration suprême un an plus tard lorsqu’elle se voit décerner le titre d’artiste de blues féminine contemporaine 2010 aux Blues Music Awards. Reprises et chansons personnelles tournent comme une évidence au répertoire de cette grande artiste à la croisée des chemins du Blues, de la Soul et du Gospel.
