Adapté au cinéma par Peter Brook en 1963 et Harry Hook en 1990, Sa Majesté des Mouches est pour la première fois présentée sur une scène française. Désireux de sonder la violence dans laquelle se perd une partie de la jeunesse d’aujourd’hui, de poser « la question de la responsabilité, de la conscience de l’autre et de la rédemption », Ned Grujic conçoit une « approche à la fois épique, allégorique et spirituelle » du roman écrit par William Golding en 1954. « Il s’agit d’une histoire shakespearienne dont la guerre est le moteur », indique le metteur en scène, « une histoire où des enfants dits éduqués et civilisés glissent peu à peu dans la sauvagerie, puis la barbarie ». En donnant à entendre cet affrontement entre le bien et le mal, les idéaux démocratiques et la tyrannie, les instincts primaires et le raisonnement, Ned Grujic souhaite renvoyer à notre époque sa propre image : celle d’une « période où la violence entre jeunes nous désarme et remet en cause nos principes (…) d’éducation et de socialisation ».
