Le titre évoque le Bouddha qui apparaîtra lorsque le monde aura atteint l’harmonie. Comment cette spiritualité nourrit-elle votre art ?
Saburo Teshigawara : Je ne conçois pas l’harmonie comme un état fixé et stable, mais plutôt comme un équilibre perpétuellement mouvant. L’harmonie n’est jamais complète, elle est une quête aux prises avec une lutte pleine de doutes. Elle ne se confond pas avec le concept de paradis. De même que, dans la vie biologique, de nouvelles cellules vivantes naissent de la mort des anciennes, des conflits adviennent à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur de notre corps, que nous essayons d’harmoniser chacun de façon singulière. Ce combat est toujours positif. Je me sens très attiré par l’équilibre créé entre l’immensité et l’infime. Cette idée n’est pas fondée sur une quelconque religion, mais existe dans l’inconscient et le conscient, en lutte permanente, même dans les moindres instants de la vie quotidienne.
D’où est parti le geste de création pour Miroku ?
S. T. : Il existe à Kyoto une statue nommée « Miroku Bosatsu », c’est-à-dire « réincarnation de Bouddha », que je trouve très belle. Ce fut l’origine de la création de cette pièce.
Quels liens établissez-vous entre le corps, le mouvement et les lumières, les effets visuels ?
S. T. : La lumière constitue l’élément primordial de cette pièce. Elle n’est pas stable, mais bouge au contraire sans cesse, c’est-à-dire qu’elle varie d’intensité, de luminosité, de couleur, de vitesse dans ces changements. Le corps est très influencé par la rapidité de transformation de l’environnement physique et lumineux. Il s’agit plus d’un changement qualitatif de temps que de lieu. La vitesse des mouvements dépend de la gravité et de la poussée. Cela influe également sur le corps intérieur du danseur, parce que son corps existe dans l’espace comme des particules de vapeur.
Votre formation initiale de sculpteur a-t-elle une influence sur la façon dont vous appréhendez l’espace ?
S. T. : L’espace n’existe jamais hors de configuration concrètes. Il est créé par une relation causée par une certaine énergie. La qualité de l’espace n’est pas fixe, mais est étroitement liée aux éléments qui l’influencent, comme les personnes qui y apparaissent, ou une lumière qui entre ou encore une ombre qui surgit. La relation entre un élément et les autres induit une certaine énergie, si bien que « l’espace entre » devient aussi important pour sculpter des changements significatifs.
