C’est aux lisières insolites du réel et du fantastique que David Wampach dessine son mouvement, travestissant les genres et détournant avec ironie les icônes de la culture populaire infiltrées au cœur de nos imaginaires. Après Casse-noisette, pastichée dans une réjouissante Cassette en une danse de salon, le chorégraphe s’attaque au Sacre du printemps. « Je choisis de m’intéresser au Sacre du printemps pour tout ce qu’il évoque : le rituel, la cérémonie, l’état d’extase, d’enivrement, d’ivresse. » explique-t-il. Et il l’aborde non par la musique de Stravinski ou la danse de Nijinski, mais par le travail sur les costumes du peintre russe Nicolas Roerich, qui « s’est inspiré de costumes folkloriques traditionnels, d’après des exemplaires qu’une princesse russe conservait dans ses archives. » Moulés dans des justaucorps qui uniformisent leur silhouette tout en laissant transparaître leurs formes, Tamar Shelef et David Wampach arpentent l’espace de leur huis clos en haletant la partition, portant par le souffle les trépidations du corps jusqu’à l’épuisement sacrificiel.
