Tout comme Russell Maliphant, qui a su quitter le Ballet Royal de Londres pour interroger sa propre modernité, tout comme Sylvie Guillem, qui claqua la porte de l’Opéra de Paris pour vivre sa vie de soliste, Akram Khan a dû prendre un virage décisif : originaire du Bangladesh et grand danseur de kathak, il est devenu le dépositaire d’un style unique, subtil mélange entre la danse contemporaine et la danse indienne, conviant sur le plateau la musique, le mouvement, la littérature ou les arts visuels. Le programme « Monstres Sacrés » proposé au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, même s’il porte un titre un brin racoleur, n’a pas d’autre prétention que de rassembler ces deux énergies, au service de la rencontre. Au spectateur la sensation d’assister à un moment unique, d’être « au plus près des étoiles ».
La simplicité de solos et d’un duo, et des collaborateurs de renom
Le spectacle s’offre le temps de faire prendre corps à chaque personnalité au travers de deux solos. Sylvie Guillem danse sur une chorégraphie de Lin Hwai-Min, un des maîtres de la danse à Taiwan. Porteur d’une danse à mi-chemin entre classique et modernité, entre Orient et Occident, Lin Hwai-Min dirige habituellement le ballet du Coud Gate Dance Theater. Le deuxième solo met également en avance une identité culturelle : Akram Khan a choisi de travailler de nouveau avec la danseuse de kathak Gauri Sharma Tripathi. Au terme de ces deux moments de danse, vient l’union à travers le duo. C’est Akram Khan lui-même qui signe cette rencontre. En fil rouge, les musiciens sur scène assurent la transition d’un univers à l’autre.
