Ecrit lors d’une résidence d’auteur à la Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, Salvador, la montagne, l’enfant et la mangue suit le parcours d’un enfant pas comme les autres. Un enfant qui grandit, quelque part en Amérique latine, au sein d’une famille devant faire face à la difficulté quotidienne de se nourrir, de s’éduquer, de rester soudés pour s’en sortir. Par le biais de vingt souvenirs, la pièce jeune public de Suzanne Lebeau reconstruit l’existence de ce personnage hors du commun qui, à l’âge de sept ans, devient écrivain public pour subvenir aux besoin de ses frères et sœurs. « L’histoire est universelle, simple dans son déroulement, touchante et directe », confie le metteur en scène François Gérard. Une histoire pour laquelle le fondateur de La Manivelle Théâtre a demandé au percussionniste Stéphane Butruille de composer une musique originale nourrie des thèmes de l’universalité, de la nature et du voyage.
