On le sait, l’un des fils rouges de l’œuvre d’Elfriede Jelinek est la question du féminisme. Dans la même veine qu’un Thomas Bernhard, l’autrice autrichienne, prix Nobel de la littérature 2014, utilise le langage avec brio et ironie pour dénoncer une société agrippée aux conformismes. Le patriarcat qui oppresse la femme est un matériau riche d’inspiration, tout comme la réécriture des mythes féminins à l’œuvre dans Drames de princesses ou Ulrike Maria Stuart. Schatten (Eurydikte sagt) revisite le mythe d’Orphée en donnant à voir une femme d’aujourd’hui subissant le joug de son mari, un chanteur reconnu et admiré, mais un homme possessif et machiste. Au royaume des ombres, Eurydice se souvient de sa vie écrasée par un mari et une société liberticides. Combien plus douce est son existence délivrée de la domination masculine. Pour donner vie à ce mythe nouvelle génération, Kate Mitchell, autre féministe convaincue, s’entoure de l’équipe de la Schaubühne de Berlin où elle a créé cette production en 2016. Comme souvent dans ses spectacles, la vidéo en direct tient une grande place et rend la cruauté de la parole encore plus saisissante.
