En attendant sa seconde apparition parisienne, prévue en janvier à Pleyel à la tête des Berliner Philharmoniker pour un hommage à Herbert von Karajan, Seiji Ozawa se voue pour l’heure à l’Orchestre National de France pour un programme entier de musique française. Seiji Ozawa, coloriste magnifique, est depuis toujours sensible aux reflets chromatiques particuliers du répertoire français. Son programme puise à la source des grands maîtres, partagé entre le raffinement de Ravel (Pavane pour une infante défunte), la modernité mystique de Dutilleux (Mystère de l’Instant), dont Ozawa n’a jamais cessé de défendre la musique, et enfin la démesure de Berlioz (Symphonie fantastique). Aujourd’hui âgé de 72 ans, il occupe le poste de directeur musical de l’Opéra de Vienne (Staatsoper) depuis la saison 2002-2003. Ce chef doté d’une vitalité et d’une énergie hors normes s’est donc remis au travail, veillant cependant à se ménager des plages de repos plus importantes entre deux projets.
