Il y a douze ans, le violoniste new-yorkais Hyo Kang, professeur à la Juilliard School de New York, fondait l’ensemble à cordes Sejong, avec la complicité de quatorze autres solistes ou chambristes réputés, récompensés lors des concours les plus prestigieux (Indianapolis, Naumburg, Jacques Thibaud, Paganini, Hanovre, Nielsen, etc.). L’ensemble Sejong a la particularité de jouer sans chef d’orchestre et de développer un projet musical où la dimension démocratique et collégiale est essentielle. Cet orchestre d’élite, trop peu connu encore en France, affiche une cohésion et une précision de jeu remarquable. On le découvre aujourd’hui dans un programme partagé entre des œuvres de Tchaïkovski (Sérénade pour cordes op. 48), Piazzolla (Quatre Saisons de Buenos Aire, jouées par quatre violonistes différents issus de l’ensemble) et enfin du compositeur coréen Sukhi Kang (né en 1934) pour la première européenne de ses Quatre Saisons de Pyeong Chang, œuvre composée spécialement pour Sejong et créée à l’été 2006.
