La série des Sequenze composée par Luciano Berio entre 1958 et 2002,
soit pendant l’essentiel de sa vie créatrice, est une somme tout à fait
originale dans le domaine de la musique instrumentale soliste. Chaque
Sequenza, consacrée à un instrument (la flûte, la harpe, la voix etc.), est
en même temps une exploration des confins des possibilités instrumentales et une
miniature souvent assez théâtrale et toujours très expressive. Ces pièces
témoignent d’autre part de l’échange constant recherché par le compositeur avec
les meilleurs interprètes de son temps. L’Ensemble Intercontemporain et
l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France proposent deux concerts qui tissent
les liens entre les Sequenze et les ?uvres qui en sont dérivées, étendues
à de plus vastes formations. Le 25 avril, aux pièces pour hautbois (Sequenza
VII) et violon (Sequenza VIII) interprétées par les solistes de l’EIC
répondent Corale (violon et ensemble), Chemins II (alto et
ensemble) et IV (hautbois et cordes), ainsi que Points on the curve to
find (piano et ensemble) sous la direction de Susanna Mälkki. Au programme
le 28, les Sequenze pour trompette, guitare, clarinette basse et leurs
extensions concertantes (Kol-Od, Chemins V, Chemins IIc)
dirigées par Josep Pons.
