« Une sérénade est toujours mise en œuvre par un homme, écrit Ninon Brétécher. C’est l’homme qui conquiert la femme, ou cherche à le faire. Je souhaite réinventer l’exercice de sérénade, de la déclaration d’amour, en donnant la parole et la voix à une femme. » La metteure en scène a choisi Anna Mouglalis, « une icône », « une beauté incroyable », « une voix troublante », pour interpréter cette prière sensuelle en sept tableaux. « Chaque sérénade aura sa tonalité (tendre, maladroite, crue, passionnée mais aussi sombre, découragée, désespérée). De même, chaque sérénade sera située dans un lieu qui lui sera propre (une rame de métro, une piscine, une manifestation, une plage) », autant de variations sur un thème éternel. « Passé le premier aveu, je t’aime ne veut plus rien dire, il ne fait que reprendre d’une façon énigmatique, tant elle paraît vide, l’ancien message », disait Barthes : il n’empêche que la répétition n’épuise jamais, en l’espèce, l’intention !
