Qui va piano va sano… Le temps de sa découverte aux côtés du contrebassiste Avishai Cohen semble bien loin. Pas à pas, album après album savamment concoctés (cinq à ce jour), le pianiste s’est construit une stature de leader qui force l’admiration. Sa musique est, au sens le plus noble (et irrésistible) du terme, séduisante. Dans le sens où elle s’impose à nous instantanément – par son groove sensuel, sa délicatesse, son lyrisme – comme une source de bonheur et de beauté. C’est encore plus vrai depuis la sortie il y a un an environ de son album « The Dream Thief », son premier pour le label ECM, qu’il était venu pour l’occasion présenter à Paris sur la scène de la Scala-Paris. « Qu’il se fasse « voleur de rêves » — les siens, les nôtres — en dit long sur l’onirisme qu’il met dans son jeu et dans ses compositions. » écrivait alors dans ces pages notre confrère Vincent Bessières. Le voici de retour, presque dans le même quartier, avec les mêmes rêves en tête, et aux commandes d’un trio inchangé composé du contrebassiste Jorge Roeder et du batteur Ofri Nehemya, dont la constance et la cohérence sont probablement pour beaucoup dans l’épanouissement artistique du pianiste.
