La grande danseuse franco-israélienne Sharon Sultan, personnalité incontournable de la scène flamenca actuelle, collabore pour la première fois en 2002 avec le flûtiste et compositeur Pierre Bertrand à l’occasion du spectacle «Sol y Luna » avec le Paris Jazz Big Band. De cette première rencontre germe dans l’esprit de la danseuse l’idée d’une nouvelle création autour d’une musique spécialement composée pour elle… Quatre ans plus tard, le projet prend enfin vie sous le titre « Madre » et la forme ambitieuse d’un FlamencOpéra. Sur un argument de Jean-Antoine Hierro (qui signe aussi la mise en scène et la scénographie), « Madre » raconte l’histoire d’une grande artiste de flamenco qui, devenue mère de deux filles, fait le choix d’abandonner ses enfants au profit de sa carrière et de son épanouissement artistique. Une tragédie qui verra ces destins croisés se retrouver sur scène dans un ultime et fatal duel dansé… Amoureux du flamenco, Pierre Bertrand a pris le parti de concevoir pour « Madre » une partition universelle dans laquelle d’authentiques musiciens flamencos (le percussionniste Xavier Sanchez, le guitariste Jean-Philippe Bruttmann, le chanteur Cristo Corts…) s’associent avec des musiciens orientaux et classiques à l’image du trompettiste Ibrahim Maalouf et du violoncelliste Yan Garac. Une première importante.
