Il est considéré comme l’un des plus indiscutables violonistes de notre époque, invité partout dans le monde par les plus grands orchestres et dépositaire d’une discographie exemplaire révélant toute son ampleur stylistique. Né à Moscou en 1957, Mintz a émigré avec sa famille deux ans plus tard en Israël. À l’age de onze ans, il fait ses débuts avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique d’Israël. A 16, il joue à Carnegie Hall avec l’Orchestre Symphonique de Pittsburgh, puis entre à la Juilliard School de New York. On connaît la suite… Citoyen du monde et homme d’engagements humanitaires, il joue ce soir au profit du département de Neurologie de l’Hopital Hadassah de Jérusalem, un centre hospitalo-universitaire réputé en Israël et dans le Moyen-Orient, nominé en 2005 pour le Prix Nobel de la Paix pour son engagement en faveur des relations judéo-arabes et des valeurs humaines. Événement dans l’événement, Shlomo Mintz choisit d’affronter, comme dans un fascinant duel artistique avec lui-même, les Vingt-quatre Caprices de Paganini, composés entre 1802 et 1817, concentré vertigineux de difficultés techniques extrêmes. Un défi très rarement relevé en concert. Un concert à écouter le souffle coupé.
