Hasard ou tendance : les grandes maisons d’opéras sont actuellement toutes dans la production d’une Tétralogie de Wagner. Peter Gelb, le directeur du Metropolitan de New York, a confié la mise en scène de son Ring à Robert Lepage, Stéphane Lissner, le surintendant de la Scala de Milan, à Guy Cassiers. A chaque fois, des artistes à l’esthétique innovante, très influencés par les arts visuels. A l’Opéra de Paris, Nicolas Joël a préféré faire appel à Günter Krämer, un metteur en scène académique allemand. Les deux premiers volets de sa Tétralogie, L’Or du Rhin et La Walkyrie, ont été accueillis par une volée de bois vert de la part de la critique, dénonçant à la fois la laideur scénographique et l’absence de vision. On peut toujours espérer un changement de cap pour Siegfried… Par contre, si nos yeux risquent d’être déçus, nos oreilles peuvent elles se réjouir. Le casting vocal, même s’il n’est pas du niveau de Bayreuth, promet de belles choses (Torsten Kerl en Siegfried, Peter Sidhom en Alberich, Qiu Lin Zhang en Erda). Et surtout, la direction de Philippe Jordan risque de faire, une fois de plus, des merveilles. A la tête des musiciens de l’Orchestre de l’Opéra, le chef suisse sait trouver l’équilibre idoine entre transparence sonore et tension dramatique. Une interprétation wagnérienne dépoussiérée (enfin !) de tout excès emphatique.
