COMEDIE MUSICALE / CHATELET
Attention, événement : le Châtelet, devenu le temple de la comédie musicale, programme Singin’ in the Rain. On a encore tous en mémoire la séquence du film culte avec Gene Kelly, ou pour d’autres la reprise de la même chanson dans Orange mécanique de Stanley Kubrick, qui nous montre que l’on peut aimer Beethoven et la comédie musicale… On en oublierait presque l’histoire originale de ce musical : une plongée dans le milieu du cinéma qui bascule du muet au parlant. L’œuvre, d’une efficacité redoutable, est le fruit du tandem Nacio Herbert Brown et Arthur Freed. Le Châtelet ne manque pas de moyens et confie cette nouvelle production au metteur en scène Robert Carsen, qui avait déjà monté pour le théâtre parisien My Fair Lady et dont on connaît surtout le travail à l’opéra. Intelligence de l’espace et sens des images caractérisent les approches de Carsen. Comme toujours, le Châtelet ne sacrifie pas l’artistique, avec la présence d’un orchestre d’effectif largement confortable, dirigé par Stephen Betteridge, et avec des chanteurs tous rompus à l’exercice (Dan Burton, Daniel Crossley, Clare Halse…).
