NOUVELLE PRODUCTION / THEATRE DU CHATELET
Robert Carsen est décidément à l’honneur à Paris. Après les Fêtes vénitiennes de Campra, on le retrouve dans un tout autre répertoire, avec cette nouvelle production de Singin’ in the Rain. Le metteur en scène canadien connaît bien l’univers de la comédie musicale, pour avoir notamment déjà monté avec succès au Châtelet My Fair Lady. Cette fois-ci, il s’attaque à un mythe du cinéma – on a tous en tête la cultissime scène où Gene Kelly danse sous la pluie ! Un mythe sans cesse revisité, jusqu’à Stanley Kubrick qui l’utilise brillamment dans Orange Mécanique. Il y aura sans doute moins de violence dans la production du Théâtre du Châtelet, qui convoque comme il se doit une fine équipe de chanteurs tous rompus au genre du musical (Dan Burton, Daniel Crossley, Clare Halse…). Mais surtout, l’intelligence de Jean-Luc Choplin, directeur du Théâtre, est de faire appel à un orchestre de bon calibre, l’Orchestre de chambre de Paris, dirigé pour l’occasion par Gareth Valentine. De quoi faire oublier les orchestres improbables qui trop souvent saccagent ce répertoire, au charme pourtant irrésistible.
