« Je suis là, parmi vous. Je suis la dernière fille de Sodome. Vous l’aviez oubliée depuis longtemps. Je souris. Ecoutez, écoutez, la pluie tombe et je reviens à la vie. » murmure « Celle de Sodome ». Lentement, elle renaît sous la caresse intime de l’eau qui s’infiltre sous le sel ennemi rongeant son corps enseveli. Elle raconte, goutte à goutte, les plaisirs suaves de son pays d’avant la destruction, la traque patiente de l’ennemi autour de la ville, la contagion par l’amour vérolé et l’anéantissement de son peuple sous la haine. Laurent Gaudé trame son récit d’une langue charnue, qui ne craint pas la volupté ni la maladie et ses charniers putrides, qui dit aussi la violence faite aux femmes. « Le théâtre de Laurent Gaudé est politique avec force et sans didactisme. » note le metteur en scène Stanislas Nordey. Guidée par son grand complice, la comédienne Valérie Lang se glisse dans les mots brûlants de cette rescapée devenue ange exterminateur.
