Sur le sol, un tapis de danse rose sur lequel trône un simple miroir rond évoque les lacs de sel. Dans les airs flottent des branchages métalliques et une douche de lumière. Songlines, dont le titre évoque les sentiers inscrits dans la terre par des figures ancestrales et légendaires selon la tradition aborigène, nous rappelle que Joanne Leighton, installée depuis de longues années en Belgique puis en France, a des racines australiennes. Avec cette pièce créée il y a moins d’un an la chorégraphe poursuit, dans le sillon de 9000 Pas, son étude sur la marche. Elle invite au plateau sept danseurs qui, de lignes en rondes, tracent un nouveau chemin, inventent un rituel contemporain, forment une communauté qui fascine. Répétitifs et hypnotiques, leurs gestes répondent à la composition In C de Terry Riley, considérée comme la première œuvre du courant de la musique minimaliste. A noter que Joanne Leighton ouvrira en mars la biennale de danse du Val-de-Marne avec une œuvre nouvelle : Corps exquis.
