Violoncelliste (pas si) classique incontestée, familière des grandes œuvres du répertoire ou de collaborations avec des compositeurs contemporains, Sonia Wieder-Atherton reste avant tout une musicienne voyageuse, soucieuse de raconter des histoires, en quête d’identité, de souvenirs ou de paysages. Après ses Chants juifs et Chants d’Est, la voici en rêverie sur les rives de la Méditerranée. « Il m’est très vite apparu que dans mon imaginaire, la Méditerranée c’est d’abord une image. Celle d’une scène ronde, au parterre de sable chauffé par le soleil brûlant, entourée de gradins en pierre. Une femme seule, encerclée par la mer, parle, crie chuchote. A la terre, aux dieux, à elle-même. Son Odyssée est une succession d’aventures au cours desquelles elle est confrontée au vent, aux vagues, au chaos, à la tempête, aux sanglots, à un chœur imaginaire … Peut-être que cette femme c’est moi, et que sa voix serait celle de mon violoncelle. » confie Sonia Wieder-Atherton. Un voyage aux confins de l’émotion.
