Comment votre travail a-t-il rencontré Witold Gombrowicz ?
Sophie Perez : Gombrowicz n’arrive pas par hasard dans notre travail car tout va dans le sens de ce que nous fabriquons dans la littérature de Gombrowicz ! Nous nous sommes rencontrés il y a dix ans et nous étions déjà amoureux de cet auteur. Notre écriture est parallèle à ce qu’il provoque chez nous et nous abordons ce spectacle comme les précédents : l’œuvre de Gombrowicz est un fil rouge pour écrire une nouvelle pièce et lui rendre hommage.
Quels matériaux puisez-vous dans son œuvre ?
S. P. : Non pas les pièces de théâtre mais les romans, les entretiens avec De Roux, le journal et Les Envoûtés, ce roman gothique où se résout un mystère dans un château hanté d’après lequel nous avons réécrit une micro-opérette. Le spectacle mêle des choses que nous avons écrites et des morceaux de Gombrowicz. C’est une sorte de boucle où il est convoqué en permanence sur les thèmes qui lui sont chers : l’immaturité, la mauvaise foi, la posture de l’artiste, sa désespérance, la poésie, le déracinement, la difficulté de fabriquer et tout ce qui fait que la matière psychique devient littérature. Il s’agit de traduire artistiquement cette entreprise humaine de faire œuvre. Faire du théâtre ce n’est pas seulement un métier d’artisan produisant des choses qui divertissent ses semblables mais c’est faire de l’art avec de la lumière, des comédiens, etc., et faire tenir ensemble ces choses vivantes sur un plateau dans ce miracle qu’on attend toujours quand on va au théâtre. Souvent, quand les gens sortent de nos spectacles, ils demandent si ça sera différent le lendemain : j’aime bien provoquer cette impression !

Quelle place accordez-vous à la musique dans ce spectacle ?
S. P. : Comme toujours, une place très importante. Nous répétons en musique en permanence. De la musique la plus expérimentale au rock n’roll ou à la variété, la musique nous porte pendant les répétitions, même si dans le spectacle, il y a plein de moments sans musique et jamais vraiment celle que nous avons utilisée en répétition puisque Xavier Boussiron recompose tout pour le spectacle.

S. P. : C’est fondamental ! Ça ne peut se faire qu’avec ces gens-là ! Ces comédiens ont beaucoup de panache, d’énergie, de désespoir en commun. Ils sont de véritables bulldozers du plateau ! Pour eux, c’est assez sportif de jouer dans nos spectacles car il leur faut arriver à fabriquer de l’émotion, foutre le blues, faire des chutes : cela convoque tout de l’acteur. Il faut des gens très autonomes et très costauds pour se balader dans tous ces états-là ! Le spectacle est écrit avec eux et pour eux, avec leurs traversées à eux de cette œuvre-là. Nous retrouvons également l’écriture de Gombrowicz dans le rapport qu’elle entretient à la parodie, qui est aussi une caractéristique de notre recherche et qui nous pousse à vraiment travailler sur la forme du jeu et à questionner le statut de l’interprète et de sa capacité à écrire et à produire.
