Cadmos, premier roi et fondateur de Thèbes eut un fils dont le fils, Labdacos, engendra Laïos, père d’Œdipe qui eut de sa mère des enfants scandaleux, Ismène et Antigone, Etéocle et Polynice, promis au trépas puisque nés d’une matrice endogame. Les Labdacides, descendants de Labdacos, ont inspiré les grands tragiques grecs : Sophocle, Eschyle et Euripide narrent tous une partie de leur destin. Si les Atrides trouvent dans L’Orestie d’Eschyle l’unité dramatique et poétique de leur histoire, la geste maudite des fils de Cadmos est soumise à la variation des styles, des langues et des points de vue. Ce pourquoi le projet de Joël Jouanneau de réunir en un même spectacle et dans l’unité d’une seule poésie le récit des déboires fatals de ce clan est intéressant. Le pari était osé et Jouanneau le gagne haut la main en composant un texte original qui emprunte ses couleurs aux matériaux antiques mais aussi au très beau poème que Yannis Ritsos offrit à Ismène l’incomprise, tout comme à une inspiration propre qui sait se dégager, en ses formes et ses variations, de la seule imitation.
Une distribution en constellation d’individualités brillantes
Jouanneau œuvre en liberté. Jocaste n’apparaît pas sur scène, Cadmos en revanche est là qui gronde et répète la honte de sa race, Tirésias campe le pendant voyant d’Œdipe l’aveuglé et la part est laissée belle aux héritiers, ces enfants qui choisissent chacun des voies différentes pour sortir du labyrinthe de la nécessité et échouent tous à en trouver l’issue. Les comédiens qui s’emparent de ces figures réussissent le tour de force de les individualiser par un jeu intense. Si l’harmonie de la troupe est indéniable et si l’unité spectaculaire est solide, le charisme de chaque comédien réussit à montrer combien le personnage tragique est seul face au destin. Ainsi Cécile Garcia-Fogel qui fait de son Antigone une intouchable farouche ; ainsi la vibrante Sabrina Kouroughli qui offre à Ismène la dignité de celle qui oppose au refus le refus du refus et la beauté des choses à l’emphase des combats au goût de sang ; ainsi le sidérant Jacques Bonnaffé, en Œdipe irascible emmuré dans l’égoïsme de sa souffrance, infiniment poignant en clochard céleste. Servi par des acteurs qui investissent le texte dans l’autonomie de son renouveau et porté par une langue aussi limpide que poétique, le spectacle conçu, écrit et mis en scène par Joël Jouanneau est une remarquable réussite.
