THEATRE DE SURESNES / MUSIQUE SACREE
Le Stabat Mater est une œuvre qui exprime la douleur de la Vierge devant son fils crucifié. Pergolèse écrit sa version à 26 ans, juste avant de mourir, au terme de cinq années de composition où il aura imposé un style qui influencera toute la seconde moitié du XVIIIème siècle. La simplicité des moyens requis dans ses œuvres vocales expriment des sentiments humains authentiques et contrastent avec la flamboyance parfois vaine du bel canto en vigueur à son époque. La beauté simple de ses mélodies annoncent Mozart et lui valent une immense popularité post-mortem, qui provoque en France la querelle des bouffons. Né quelques années après Pergolèse, Pasquale Caffaro a près de 70 ans lorsqu’il écrit à son tour un Stabat Mater, témoin de l’évolution musicale à Naples.
