Ce grand guitariste manouche qui a grandi en France dans une famille de « Sinti » piémontais, a largement sillonné les routes, de Blida en Algérie à Bastia en Corse, terre à laquelle ce nouvel album rend hommage. Jusqu’à Perpignan où il vit aujourd‘hui. Mais son passeport pourrait logiquement faire figurer avant toute autre mention : « enfant de Django ». On suit depuis déjà quelques années le parcours du virtuose Steeve Laffont et ses mérites ne sont plus à démontrer, on ne croise pas impunément le fer avec Tchavolo Schmitt, Biréli Lagrène ou Stochelo Rosenberg… Mais, fort de sa complicité avec le violoniste virtuose Costel Nitescu, sa musique semble avoir trouvé aujourd’hui une couleur plus personnelle dans un alliage de nuances qui empruntent à la fois à la tradition manouche, aux standards de jazz (Gershwin, Ellington, etc.), au Brésil, à la musique afro-cubaine et à la Catalogne… Avec aussi Rudy Rabuffetti (gauitare) et Guillaume Bouthié (contrebasse).
