« Le silence, c’est l’espace entre les notes qui permet aux musiciens de ne pas jouer de façon automatique. » Telle est la ligne de conduite de Stéphane Kerecki à la tête d’un quartet du style majuscule : Airelle Besson, Marc Copland, Fabrice Moreau et Sylvain Rifflet, soit des musiciens « attentifs à l’espace que l’on laisse à la musique commune ». Inspiré par une juste phrase du séminal Gary Peacock où il décrit « un état d’esprit propice à la musique d’éclore et de sortir du silence », ce projet du contrebassiste relève selon lui de cette philosophie zen. « Je comprends cela comme une présence au sein du groupe, lorsque l’on improvise, afin de se rendre disponible à toute éventualité et de pouvoir d’interagir. Et c’est lorsque l’on a cette attention que la musique devient vivante. » Celle qui, entre deux notes de silence, s’inscrit au cœur des vibrations du temps présent, comme une inspirée respiration face aux vacarmes du monde.
