Chez les Manouches, c’est un peu comme une tradition : on naît guitariste, de père en fils, d’oncle à neveu. En la manière, le trio Rosenberg est un cas exemplaire : les deux frères Nous’che et Nonnie vont assurer la section rythmique pour leur cousin Stochelo. Les trois Hollandais affichent une bonne quinzaine d’albums, où le leader affirme une virtuosité qui ne rime jamais avec banalité. Il faut dire que Stochelo n’est pas franchement un manche, et fut repéré comme un futur grand lors d’un Children TV Contest. Le gamin qui a tout appris auprès de son père et son oncle n’a alors que douze ans, et moins de dix ans plus tard, en 1988, c’est à Samois-sur-Seine, le sanctuaire de Django, qu’il se fait adouber par ses pairs. Dès lors, celui qui impressionna Stéphane Grappelli et Paco de Lucia va imposer son sens mélodique et sa précision technique dans une communauté qui en a pourtant entendu d’autres. Sans doute parce que tout son savoir demeure ancré dans un savoir-faire désormais séculaire, transmis au fil des générations.
