La Cité de la musique s’est fait une spécialité du rapprochement judicieux des esthétiques. Pour rendre hommage à Iannis Xenakis, disparu en 2001, on ne pouvait trouver mieux que de lui faire côtoyer l’œuvre de Stravinsky. D’évidence, les deux compositeurs partagent une conception révolutionnaire de la composition, ainsi qu’une attention toute particulière accordée au rythme. Mais c’est peut-être surtout leur grande liberté de style qui les réunit et ces cinq concerts sont l’occasion de s’en rendre compte. À côté de pages emblématiques comme Jonchaies (1977) de Xenakis ou L’Oiseau de feu (version de 1945) de Stravinsky, interprétées par Pascal Rophé et l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France (9 octobre), d’autres sont moins connues comme leur musique de chambre (Ensemble intercontemporain, 11 octobre) ou les œuvres inspirées de l’Antiquité grecque que dirige Michel Tabachnik (21 octobre) : le mélodrame Perséphone de Stravinsky et Antikhton de Xenakis, d’après Pythagore. Yoel Levi, avec l’Orchestre national d’Ile de France (16 octobre), et François-Xavier Roth, avec l’Ensemble intercontemporain (23 octobre) participent également.
