Vénérée par les amateurs chevronnés, Subra Guha n’est pourtant pas la plus connue des chanteuses issues de la longue tradition hindoustanie. Cette pédagogue n’en est pas moins la seule femme à avoir accédé au rang de gourou à la très stricte Sangeet Research Academy de Calcutta, qu’elle intégra en 1982. Grandie dans le sillon de la gharana d’Agra, école stylistique qui a formé bien des érudits dans le Nord de l’Inde, Subra Guha peut d’ailleurs compter sur une technique irréprochable : sa voix a même été comparée à celle du légendaire Ustad Faiyaz Khan, le « Soleil de la musique » et fondateur de la gharana d’Agra. Ce soir, elle alternera léger thumri et semi-classique khyal, des guirlandes de notes propices aux plus belles envolées.
