Le Kotéba ? C’est une forme de théâtre satirique et burlesque qui se joue dans les villages de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, au Mali et alentour. Une fois l’an, la nuit du koté, hommes, femmes, enfants se réunissent sur la place du village en cercles concentriques autour du feu. Le mot « kotéba » signifie « grand escargot », comme la spirale de la coquille de l’animal. Le kotéba, en évoquant les tares de la société et les abus de pouvoir, provoque un rire d’autodérision. L’équipe de BlonBa, dont les artistes sont de Bamako et d’ailleurs, adapte depuis les années 80, un kotéba urbain pour la scène et la ville. C’est l’histoire d’un directeur de théâtre français qui demande à un artiste malien de monter un kotéba sur la ville de banlieue où il officie (Choisy-le-Roi). Mais c’est pour des raisons extra artistiques évidemment que les acteurs recrutés à Bamako cherchent à venir en France. Une belle découverte de l’art populaire et facétieux du kotéba, proche de la farce.
