Révélée il y a dix ans par son déjà mythique album "Salt Rain", distinguée en son temps à Londres par le prix de la Révélation aux BBC Music Awards, Susheela Raman signe aujourd’hui son cinquième album. La musique de cette authentique song-writer s’est toujours nourrie d’influences indiennes, soul et folk. Mais ce nouvel opus semble spécialement marqué par les nombreux voyages faits en Inde par la chanteuse au cours des dernières années. « J’ai évidemment été bercée par de nouvelles influences » confie Susheela Raman qui signe probablement avec « VEL » son disque le plus personnel. « Ce nouvel album est un mélange équilibré entre mes racines tamoules et mes inspirations européennes. VEL est un témoignage de mon propre voyage en tant qu’européenne ayant des racines indiennes au cœur du territoire musical Tamoul. Il s’agit ici moins de raffinement que de l’intensité des sentiments véhiculés. » explique-t-elle.
