La Dynamo / jazz contemporain
On aime beaucoup la façon dont Sylvain Rifflet cultive depuis plusieurs années une manière très élégante de faire de la musique, qui combine le souffle du jazz — et en particulier chez lui quelque chose du timbre évanescent de Stan Getz et son sens mélodique — avec des mécaniques compositionnelles réglées comme des horloges, entre vertiges kaléidoscopiques et rêves mathématiques. Élégiaque et souriant, son dernier opus « Aux anges » adoucit quelque peu la géométrie de ses formes pour leur donner espace et respiration. La trompette fugace du Finlandais Verneri Pohjola n’est pas pour rien dans le sentiment de légèreté de l’ensemble, ni les percussions de Benjamin Flamant, forgées et réglées par ses soins, qui font pivoter la musique sur elle-même tout en la faisant rayonner vers l’ailleurs. « Cake-walk from a spaceship » annonce un titre de son disque, soit une forme de rétrofuturisme assumé qui donne à son drôle de quartet sa poésie et ses lumières.
