Hasardeux tressage du confucianisme chinois et d’influences japonaises, européennes, américaines, et aborigènes, la culture taïwanaise marie volontiers le local au global et les traditions aux mœurs contemporaines. Durant trois semaines, elle vient s’installer au cœur d’Avignon pour dévoiler quelques-unes de ses facettes. Parmi les six propositions, la danse tient l’affiche avec la Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company qui présente S, chorégraphié par Chou Shu-Yi. S comme solitude, silence, ségrégation et séparation… S comme réponse à une question que pose Henry David Thoreau dans son essai Walden and Civil Disobedience : « Quelle sorte d’espace est celui qui sépare un homme de ses semblables et le rend solitaire ? ». Avec Loop me, la danseuse et chorégraphe Su Wen-Chi allie mouvement et vidéo pour confronter le corps aux notions de répétition, de réel, de dérive, d’extinction, de communication et d’immédiateté.
Formes multiples
Le théâtre lui aussi va explorer aux frontières du genre, mêlant mouvement, musique, marionnettes et vidéo. Avec Riz au lait, le Riverbed Theatre chemine dans l’univers poétique de Baudelaire pour découvrir les noirs paysages du désir et du refoulement. Le Playbox Ensemble Theatre part sur les traces de trois femmes de générations différentes et dessine A Voyage to the Island qui interroge son île dans le monde contemporain. La pièce résonne bien en écho avec Charme de Taïwan, concert du Ten Drum Art Percussion Group qui évoque la vie ordinaire de la population et les chants aborigènes retentissant dans les montagnes. Enfin, le plasticien Chun-Yi Chang dévie les objets de leur trajectoire, avec Jeter dans le vide, installation ludique et réflexive sur le hasard et le destin. Une bonne introduction à la culture taïwanaise en somme…
