JAZZ/BOULOGNE-BILLANCOURT
Depuis les années 1980 et malgré les changements de personnel (Mervyn Warren qui en fut la voix principale s’en est allé), ce sextet vocal originaire d’Alabama s’est donné pour mission de réformer le gospel afin de convertir à leurs harmonies vocales un public profane. C’est ainsi que cet ensemble 100% a cappella (une voix basse, une baryton, et quatre ténor) a façonné une singulière identité autour d’un répertoire qui embrasse les multiples facettes de la musique afro-américaine : gospel donc, mais aussi blues, soul, rhythm’n’blues, et même pop. Sans oublier, bien entendu le bon vieux jazz, qui confère à leurs polyphonies ce nécessaire petit supplément. Le tout grâce à des arrangements taillés au cordeau et une parfaite maîtrise de leur registre.
