Compagnie phare dans le paysage de la danse contemporaine chinoise, le TAO Dance Theater est accueilli pour la troisième fois au Théâtre de la Ville. « C’est dans le corps, dans notre existence physique, qui porte en elle l’ordre intrinsèque de la vie, que réside la plus grande des sagesses. » souligne son fondateur, le chorégraphe Tao Ye. Dans ses œuvres, c’est donc le corps seul, masse unique et indivisible, qui crée le mouvement, sans soutien narratif ni support scénographique. Un mouvement souple et ininterrompu, extraordinairement fluide. Dans 6 (pour six danseurs), des silhouettes et un plateau noirs. Dans 7 (pour sept interprètes), un sol immaculé et des danseurs engoncés de blanc, soudain en pleine lumière. Avec leurs bustes qui ploient et ondulent à partir des hanches, sans le secours des bras devenus comme invisibles, les corps sont à l’unisson. Une transe hypnotique d’une précision époustouflante.
