Le projet fou et généreux de Gwenaël Morin consiste à affirmer le théâtre en jouant les 24 premiers jours du mois, en assumant des ateliers de transmission le matin et les répétitions l’après-midi, afin de présenter un spectacle nouveau tous les deux mois. Jusqu’à décembre, sont prévues les œuvres du répertoire d’après Lorenzaccio, Tartuffe, Hamlet, Bérénice, Antigone, Woyzeck. L’acte symbolique du spectateur louant sa place de théâtre est remplacé par celui de se constituer public invité. L’accès libre signifie entrée gratuite, et « continuité entre l’espace de la rue et l’espace de la salle. » Après l’aventure intense de Lorenzaccio et celle des Justes au Théâtre de la Bastille en début de saison, vient l’heure de Tartuffe. La mise en scène de la pièce de Molière fait front à la salle de spectacle avec gradins et rideaux, à la différence de la «quadrifrontalité » de Lorenzaccio dans le hall d’accueil. Pour décor, une table de bois avec chandelier, le manteau d’Arlequin de la petite scène de « théâtre dans le théâtre » initiée par Elmire. La judicieuse épouse d’Orgon est ainsi réduite à cette extrémité pour que son mari « tartuffié » consente enfin à admettre la fausseté du dévot qui la courtise impunément bien qu’elle soit la femme de son ami.
Des gestes inattendus et éloquents, des mouvements désordonnés
L’approche théâtrale privilégiée par Gwenaël Morin sert la proximité avec le public, un rapprochement physique et mental à travers la dédramatisation du texte de théâtre. La déclamation est ostensiblement dédramatisée pour accéder naturellement – un naturel élaboré – à une langue versifiée, re-dramatisée dans les passages significatifs où le sens, circulant à son acmé, relance la fiction. Par exemple, la satire sociale de la scène familiale d’exposition est farcesque. Madame Pernelle dit combattre l’hypocrisie en tançant son monde, sous couvert de la religion. Elle ne fait que tomber dans les bras du plus grand des fourbes. C’est que chacun joue inconsciemment un rôle de convenance fausse et les masques se découvrent à la façon du peintre Ensor du Carnaval d’Ostende, un exemple d’outrance expressive selon Morin. Cléante, le sage beau-frère d’Orgon qui sait « du faux avec le vrai faire la différence », tend le bras vers le ciel quand il cite Dieu. Ce sont des gestes inattendus et éloquents, des mouvements désordonnés, une turbulence des corps investie par les acteurs tous masculins, si ce n’est le rôle d’Elmire. De la contrainte du verbe classique surgit paradoxalement la violence des émotions dans les situations conflictuelles. La passion glisse de la farce à la leçon de morale parodique. Ce joli vertige vivant ne laisse pas indifférent, loin de là.
