Co-dirigé par quatre de nos meilleurs musiciens de la nouvelle génération, The Amazing Keystone Big Band a su sans complexe, en quelques années d’existence, prendre une place singulière dans le paysage jazzistique français. Dans ce nouveau projet consacré à West Side Story, la grande formation du tromboniste Bastien Ballaz, du saxophoniste Jon Boutellier, du pianiste Fred Nardin et du trompettiste David Enhco reste attachée à la relecture « jazz » d’une œuvre de grand répertoire, conçue dans un esprit de grand spectacle familial associant un récitant. A l’image de leurs précédentes réalisations dédiées à Pierre et le Loup et au Carnaval des Animaux. West Side Story, ce chef-d’œuvre du répertoire lyrique américain né de la collaboration en 1957 de Leonard Bernstein et Stephen Sondheim, portée à l’écran en 1961 par Jerome Robbins et Robert Wise, revit à l’initiative du Amazing Keystone Big Band une nouvelle mutation, dans l’énergie du concert et la voix de quatre jeunes chanteurs et d’un narrateur, pour faire sonner dans de nouveaux arrangements aux accents cuivrés les tubes America, Maria, I Feel Pretty ou Tonight.
