Lancé en 2013, The Bridge est un réseau d’échanges et de collaborations entre musiciens français et américains qui aboutit à des associations inédites de musiciens, prolongées par des tournées de concerts des deux côtés d’un pont musical transatlantique. C’est le clarinettiste Sylvain Kassap qui est au cœur de la neuvième formation issue de ce dispositif, un quartette provoquant un alliage instrumental singulier.

« La couleur orchestrale est à ma connaissance inédite, et inouïe : deux voix travaillant sur des expressions très différentes (la vocaliste Mankwe Ndosi de Minneapolis et le rappeur Mike Ladd, ndlr), un clarinettiste (Kassap lui-même ; ndlr) et un batteur (Dana Hal de Chicago, ndlr). Cela autorise un travail rare entre timbres et rythmes, improvisation et création d’un répertoire, cela permet de mélanger le jazz libre actuel, les influences de la musique contemporaine écrite d’aujourd’hui » souligne le leader. Au milieu d’une tournée française qui passera par Toulouse, Brest, Nantes ou Tours, un concert parisien est programmé à la Java avec l’apparition annoncée de musiciens invités.
