La création scénique de son cinquième opéra, en 2013 à Nancy, avait mis en lumière l’œuvre du compositeur irlandais. Ancien élève de Karlheinz Stockhausen et Mauricio Kagel, Gerald Barry en a hérité une capacité à « tordre » les modèles musicaux jusqu’à la rupture ou l’absurde. La musique qu’il a composée pour L’Importance d’être constant, avec ses lignes de chant en forme de montagnes russes et son orchestration pulvérisée, emporte le texte de Wilde dans un flot tout à la fois saisissant et impossible. Pour lui répondre, il faut une mise en scène vive, imprévisible. Après s’être frottée à l’opérette soviétique (Moscou Paradis, l’an dernier), la compagnie Opéra Louise s’empare de la comédie de l’absurde selon Wilde et Barry. À ne pas manquer !
