« Cette danse s’inscrit dans le monde, et le monde appartient à tous ». La devise des Ballets C de la B a conduit cette troupe à devenir une plateforme réunissant plusieurs chorégraphes, et à produire régulièrement les œuvres d’artistes de tous horizons, qu’elle révèle en leur offrant un cadre de création : ainsi de Miguel Moreira et Romeu Runa, venus du Portugal, qui présenteront la première de The Old King à Avignon. Pour ce solo interprété par Romeu Runa, ils ont imaginé un homme en lutte avec ses pensées, qui observe la société et ressent le besoin urgent d’intervenir, de s’adresser au peuple. Cette trame particulièrement épurée conduit les deux artistes à prendre à bras le corps des questions existentielles : la solitude et l’action, la nécessaire confrontation des pensées individuelles et collectives. La question de la prise de décision devient centrale : face à l’idée d’un « progrès », d’une fatalité à laquelle l’homme devrait se soumettre, « l’alternative n’est pas de s’arrêter, mais de sauter », souligne Miguel Moreira. Et à partir du saut, c’est une réflexion sur l’homme et sur l’artiste qui se déploie : « Sauter dans l’inconnu, c’est sauter dans la vie même… Et c’est le fait de ne pas savoir ce qui va arriver qui rend ce saut si courageux ».
