PHILHARMONIE / THÉÂTRE MUSICAL
Créé en 2012 à Mannheim, repris en 2019 à Hambourg dans la mise en scène de Netia Jones présentée cette saison à la Philharmonie, The Outcast est un jalon supplémentaire dans l’œuvre d’Olga Neuwirth (née en 1968), toujours rétive aux normes établies. Comme souvent chez la compositrice de Lost Highway (opéra d’après le film de David Lynch) ou d’Hommage à Klaus Nomi, le propos mêle musique (ici, les forces combinées de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, de l’Orchestre du Conservatoire, du chœur viennois Company of Music et du Münchner Knabenchor dirigés par Matthias Pintscher), théâtre (le comédien Johan Leysen interprète le vieux Melville aux côtés de la distribution vocale — dont l’Ismaël féminisé de Susanne Elmark) et vidéo. Avec cette adaptation de l’écriture hors norme de Melville, Olga Neuwirth entend poursuivre sa révolte contre le naufrage du monde contemporain.
