Dans son spectacle Songs from the gutter (« Chansons des bas fonds »), le trio londonien puise dans le roman tragique et glorieux que fut la vie d’Edith Piaf pour donner naissance à un cabaret inimitable, sombre et décalé, cruel et drôle. Il faut dire que le destin de la « Môme », née sur un trottoir de la rue de Belleville et devenue l’une des plus grandes divas du XXème siècle, avait de quoi inspirer Martyn Jacques, chanteur et leader des Tiger Lillies : « Piaf n’est pas comme les autres chanteurs et compositeurs. La plupart des grands vous font voyager, ils vous racontent une histoire. Il ne tient qu’à vous d’y croire pour que leurs personnages deviennent réalité et que leur chants vous transportent. Piaf, elle, était le personnage central de ses chants, arpentant les ruelles sombres et malfamées de Paris. Elle ne vous raconte pas une histoire, elle est l’histoire… » confie-t-il. Il a composé la vingtaine de chansons qui font ressurgir, en la réinventant, cette atmosphère du Paris des années 50…
