Comme toujours chez Peter Brook, la scénographie n’est constituée que de quelques éléments sommaires, essentiels. Le grand théâtre qu’il fait naître n’advient évidemment jamais par la surface des choses, mais par la puissance du jeu, par les mystères qu’il laisse voir, et par les quêtes infinies et humaines qu’il déploie. Dirigés par Peter Brook et sa fidèle complice Marie-Hélène Estienne, trois comédiens – Kathryn Hunter, Marcello Magni et Jared McNeill -, interprétant tour à tour neurologues ou synesthètes, et deux musiciens – Raphaël Chambouvet et Toshi Tsuchitori -, unissent leurs talents pour s’aventurer au cœur de vies secrètes et extraordinaires, jusqu’à la “vallée de l’étonnement“, née du poème persan La Conférence des oiseaux de Farid Al-Din Attar. Le personnage de Samy Costas, merveilleusement interprété par Kathryn Hunter, est inspiré par la vie de Solomon Shereshevsky, rendue publique par Alexander Luria dans son livre The Mind of a Mnemonist. Une heure de théâtre intense, limpide et fascinante.
