Ils sont des centaines, ventriloques de toutes langues, à se retrouver chaque année près de Cincinnati aux États-Unis, le temps d’une Convention de quelques jours. S’y racontent des histoires personnelles, des pratiques et des murmures. Parfois, certains y abandonnent même le spectre de leur personnage devenu muet… Artiste hors normes, croisant la chorégraphie, les marionnettes, le théâtre ou encore les arts plastiques, Giselle Vienne descelle les fantasmes qui s’échappent des objets, grisent la sphère intime et heurtent l’ordre social. Pas étonnant qu’elle s’intéresse à la ventriloquie, expérimentée avec Jerk en 2008. « Dans mon travail, la question du placement de la voix et du texte, l’association ou la dissociation de la voix du corps, de la narration de la pièce, sont toujours des enjeux centraux. » explique-t-elle. En 2014, elle assista à la Convention et revint avec une étonnante matière documentaire et photographique. Conçu avec son complice, l’écrivain Dennis Cooper, et des marionnettistes dont cinq du Puppentheater Halle, The Ventriloquists Convention trame fictions et bribes documentaires en une partition, où les paroles, les émotions et les solitudes se superposent.
