THEATRE DE L’ATHENEE / JAZZ
Derrière le sourire conquérant et solaire de ce pianiste magnifique, semble se cacher la fêlure d’un personnage plus complexe qu’il en a l’air, comme fuyant en permanence en avant vers de nouveaux projets toujours plus ambitieux… Après en quelques années la création de son propre label, un album en trio, un projet avec orchestre symphonique, un piano solo et la composition d’un concerto pour la violoncelliste classique Olivia Gay (sa compagne), Thierry Maillard est déjà engagé dans une nouvelle et monumentale aventure, celle d’un big band qui porte son nom. Cet orchestre de luxe qui réunit une impressionnante équipe de quinze musiciens de premier plan (de David Enhco à Stéphane Guillaume, de Samy Thiébault à Daniel Zimmermann, etc.) se met au service de huit compositions du leader qui aborde l’écriture pour big band avec une griffe très personnelle. Une grande réussite discographique prolongée par une soirée exceptionnelle à l’Athénée où l’orchestre jouera sans sonorisation. Un challenge dans le challenge.
