Un art immatériel, unique, éphémère, oral, corporel, réflexif, car centré sur la situation plus que sur l’objet. Tino Seghal orchestre dans ses installations des temps d’échange apparemment fortuits entre les visiteurs et les intervenants, temps d’échange pouvant se révéler très surprenants. Ces moments singuliers injectent un peu de subjectivité dans nos modes de consommation formatés et minutieusement organisés et transforment la visite d’un musée en véritable expérience, car ils intègrent le visiteur dans une sorte de mise en scène stimulante et ludique. L’an dernier, l’artiste anglais vivant à Berlin a eu l’honneur d’être exposé au Musée Guggenheim à New York, et c’est sa première venue à Avignon. Il fut danseur pour Jérôme Bel ou Xavier Le Roy et aujourd’hui réinvente l’espace du musée à travers un art de la performance. Dans This Situation, le visiteur assiste librement à une « situation construite » qui se développe au sein d’une conversation nourrie de philosophie (Montaigne, Nietzsche ou les situationnistes), et menée par ceux que Tino Sehgal appelle des « joueurs », qui impliquent le visiteur dans leur ronde.
