Quoi de plus troublant et captivant que d’entendre un compositeur majeur jouer ou diriger sa propre musique. L’expérience est devenue peu fréquente dans un temps où les compositeurs se sont peu à peu coupés de la pratique instrumentale de très haut niveau. C’est heureusement le cas du compositeur, pianiste et chef d’orchestre Thomas Adès (né à Londres en 1971) dont la musique foisonnante et éminemment actuelle, portée par une vitalité rythmique souvent impressionnante, ne prend jamais autant de sens que sous ses propres doigts… Lors de ce récital exceptionnel à la Fondation Vuitton, il jouera avec le jeune pianiste russe Kirill Gerstein (1er prix du concours Arthur Rubinstein de Tel Aviv) la première européenne de son Concert Paraphrase on Powder Her Face pour deux pianos, inspiré par quatre scènes de son premier opéra du même titre (Powder Her Face) composé en 1995. Au même programme, des œuvres de Debussy, Ravel (La Valse), Lustowski et Stravinsky (Symphonie de Psaumes dans la version pour deux pianos réalisée par Chostakovitch). Un concert de poids.
