Toutes les sorcières de Griffon d’or se sont penchées sur le berceau de Thomas Adès. A 47 ans, il est l’un des compositeurs les plus joués dans le monde, par les plus illustres orchestres et chefs. Sa musique de chambre est entrée au répertoire. Pas trop de mystères à cela, son langage bien que contemporain est accessible à tout mélomane de bonne volonté. Il ne faut jamais oublier la sentance de Steve Reich : « le répertoire est le petit nombre d’œuvres que le public aime entendre et les musiciens jouer ». Comme Benjamin Britten avant lui, Adès dirige aussi le grand répertoire en plus de ses œuvres et joue du piano d’une façon admirable. L’écouter dans Leos Janáček est un peu écouter Messiaen jouer Tournemire. En un mot : historique.
