Vous avez créé ensemble voici trois ans les Rencontres des jonglages. Quelle est votre ambition ?
Thomas Guérineau : La première édition en 2008 était sous-titrée « Un état des lieux du jonglage aujourd’hui ». Tous deux jongleurs, nous voulions rendre compte du formidable essor artistique et de la diversité de la jongle actuelle, qui reste encore mal connue et manque d’espaces de visibilité. Notre initiative cherche à promouvoir le jonglage comme un art à part entière, en l’émancipant du cabaret et du cirque traditionnel sans nier pour autant ces filiations fortes, ainsi qu’en lui donnant de bonnes conditions de représentation et des opportunités de diffusion. Ces rencontres s’adressent aussi bien aux amateurs qu’aux spectateurs curieux de découvrir la singularité et la qualité des œuvres jonglées.

La pratique amateur est-elle importante ?
Rémi Laroussinie : Depuis les années 50, quand se sont tenus les premiers rassemblements de jongleurs, elle s’est énormément développée. En 2008, la convention européenne de Karlsruhe a regroupé quelques 5000 personnes durant deux semaines !
Comment choisissez-vous les compagnies ?
Rémi Laroussinie : La programmation témoigne de la richesse du jonglage aujourd’hui sans s’obliger au catalogue. Elle montre la pluralité des formes esthétiques et des formats. La pertinence artistique prime sur le vœu d’exhaustivité. Une œuvre de jonglage ne se réduit pas à une démonstration virtuose, mais doit provoquer un trouble intime, porter un regard singulier qui questionne le nôtre. A côté des spectacles proches des formats en vigueur au théâtre ou dans la danse, nous présentons des œuvres de cinq à trente minutes, qui ne constituent pas des numéros de cabaret ou de cirque mais des pièces courtes, telles des haïkus ou des aphorismes, qui prennent toute leur force dans cette condensation. Nous tenons à affirmer leur statut d’œuvre. Nous essayons également de varier les espaces de représentation, avec notamment cette année des spectacles de rue, qui travaillent d’autres codes et rapports au public que les propositions en théâtre ou sous chapiteau. Enfin les « coups de dé » permettent de présenter de jeunes artistes, des travaux en cours ou des extraits.

Thomas Guérineau : Ces dernières années, les artistes ont beaucoup inventé ! L’une des évolutions majeures se voit à travers la mise en scène, qui, en plus du potentiel expressif et corporel des interprètes, s’appuie sur le temps et l’espace pour trouver une théâtralité propre. Les jongleurs s’emparent de tous les moyens du plateau pour concevoir des écritures scéniques de plus en plus élaborées. Par ailleurs, les techniques se sont non seulement aiguisées mais étoffées. Sont apparues de nouvelles pratiques, telles que le jonglage graphique, qui adapte les outils du mime à la manipulation d’objet et s’apparente presque à la magie, ou encore le « football artistique », qui mêle la jonglerie de ce sport, celle du basket et des passes du cirque traditionnel, dans une esthétique souvent proche du hip-hop. Autant d’expériences certes parfois encore fragiles mais qui ouvrent de passionnantes perspectives !
